NEGOMBO CITY TOUR

This tour could be either a one day tour, while you are transiting through Sri Lanka or part of the package tour that you have chosen with us.

One of our representatives will meet you at the Bandaranaike International Airport and take you to a beach hotel at Negombo for refreshment and relax and to recover from your jet lag. After that you will set off for City Tour and you will visit following tourist attraction sites during the city tour.

Negombo is one of the major cities in Sri Lanka situated 37 kms North of Colombo in the West coast of the island with loads of tourist attraction sites Tourism and Fishing is the main business in the city. Negombo offers golden sandy beaches, remains of Dutch Fort and Dutch Canal and Centuries old Portuguesa and Dutch Houses. Negombo is home for the country’s second largest fish market the “Lellama” and tourists have the chance to visit it. Negombo is the closest city to the Bandaranaike International Airport (7 kms) and therefore tourists either start or finish their journey from Negombo. After refreshment set off to visit following sites.

DUTCH CANAL

Dutch Canal is 100 km long Canal system which was once a supply route to the Dutch Administration linking Negombo and Colombo port. The canal is still being used by fisherman to reach sea.

DUTCH FORT

This fort was built by Dutch in 1670. Now this Fort is being used as a prison.

STMARY’S CHURCH

You will see how valuable gems that you see on a shop self are turned out from a raw stone with the background history.

KANDY LAKE

Negombo is one of the major cities in Sri Lanka where many ancient Roman Catholic churches can be found. Most of them link to the Portuguese era of the country. St. Mary’s church is one of them. The remarkable ceiling paintings of this church held grand historical value.

ANGURUKARAMULLA TEMPLE

Temple is situated in the Negombo City and is an important historic temples in Sri Lanka. The serene environment of the temple attracts many foreigners who visit the city. The temple is famous due to its 6 m long reclining Buddha statue, ancient murals and Buddhist paintings. The painted pictures of ancient Sri Lankan kings who rendered their services to the temple evoke the historical importance of the temple in the mind of present day visitors.

FISHING VILLAGE

You will get chance to speak to local fishermen and to see traditional fishing gears and boats. If you are interested could arrange boat ride with them. After that you will visit fish market before go shopping.

SHOPPING

You have many shopping opportunities in Negombo. There are local handicrafts, batiks, gem and jewellery shops and fantastic shopping in the city

After that you will go back to hotel and relax on the beach and will experience the picturesque sun set from Negombo beach.

After that you will be transferred to airport for departure or stay overnight in the hotel to continue your package tour.
